HENMT1

Description

The HENMT1 (HEN methyltransferase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

HENMT1 is a methyltransferase enzyme that modifies piRNAs, a class of small RNAs essential for regulating transposon activity. It adds a 2'-O-methyl group to the 3'-end of piRNAs, preventing degradation by uridylation. This stabilization is crucial for maintaining the piRNA pool, which is essential for proper gametogenesis.

HENMT1 is also known as C1orf59, HEN1.
