HCP5

Description

The HCP5 (HLA complex P5) is a ncRNA gene located on chromosome 6.

HCP5, also known as HLA Complex P5, is a human endogenous retrovirus. This means it's a remnant of a virus that infected humans long ago and has become part of our genome. Some versions of HCP5 might delay or prevent AIDS in people infected with HIV, particularly when they also have a specific version of an immune system gene called HLA-B. However, HCP5 can become more active after infection with the human papillomavirus and might play a role in causing cervical cancer.

HCP5 is also known as 6S2650E, D6S2650E, P5-1.
