HABP4

Description

The HABP4 (hyaluronan binding protein 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

Intracellular hyaluronan-binding protein 4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HABP4 gene.

HABP4, also known as IHABP-4, is a ribosome-binding protein that promotes ribosome hibernation. This process involves stabilizing ribosomes in an inactive state to protect them from degradation. HABP4 interacts with EEF2 at the A-site of the ribosome, contributing to this inactive state, which is essential for ribosome storage. HABP4 plays a critical role in ribosome hibernation within mature oocytes, ensuring ribosome stability. During oogenesis, large quantities of ribosomes are produced and stored in the oocyte and early embryo, where they are translationally repressed. Additionally, HABP4 binds RNA, influencing transcription and pre-mRNA splicing. It binds to poly(U) RNA via its C-terminus. HABP4 appears to participate in the formation of PML-nuclear bodies. It also negatively regulates the DNA-binding activity of the transcription factor MEF2C in myocardial cells in response to mechanical stress. HABP4 interacts with various proteins, including EEF2, FMR1, FXR1, FXR2, CHD3, RACK1, p53, SRSF9, SYNCRIP, MEF2C, PRMT1, and SPIN1.

HABP4 is also known as IHABP-4, IHABP4, Ki-1/57, SERBP1L.
