GYG2
Description
The GYG2 (glycogenin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.
Glycogenin-2 plays a crucial role in glycogen synthesis. It acts as a primer for glycogen synthase by self-glucosylating, creating an oligosaccharide chain through an inter-subunit mechanism. This primer then serves as the starting point for glycogen synthase to elongate the glycogen molecule.
GYG2 is also known as GN-2, GN2.
