GTSE1

Description

The GTSE1 (G2 and S-phase expressed 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

The GTSE1 gene encodes an enzyme called G2 and S phase-expressed protein 1. This protein is only active during the S and G2 phases of the cell cycle, where it associates with tubulin and microtubules in the cytoplasm. In response to DNA damage, GTSE1 moves into the nucleus and binds to the p53 tumor suppressor protein. This binding leads to the removal of p53 from the nucleus, reducing its ability to trigger cell death (apoptosis).

GTSE1 may play a role in p53-mediated cell cycle arrest during the G2/M phase by disrupting the microtubule rearrangements necessary for entry into mitosis. Increased levels of GTSE1 can slow down the progression of the G2/M phase.

GTSE1 is also known as B99.
