GTF2H4

Description

The GTF2H4 (general transcription factor IIH subunit 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

GTF2H4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GTF2H4 gene. It is involved in general transcription and DNA repair.

GTF2H4 is a core component of the TFIIH complex, which plays a critical role in both DNA repair and RNA transcription. In DNA repair, TFIIH facilitates nucleotide excision repair (NER) by unwinding DNA around damaged sections, allowing for the removal of the damaged segment and its replacement with a new fragment. In RNA transcription, TFIIH is essential for transcription initiation. Once the pre-initiation complex (PIC) is assembled, TFIIH is responsible for opening the promoter region and enabling the RNA polymerase II to move beyond the promoter. The phosphorylation of the RNA polymerase II C-terminal tail by the CAK module regulates transcription initiation.

GTF2H4 is also known as P52, TFB2, TFIIH.
