GTF2E1

Description

The GTF2E1 (general transcription factor IIE subunit 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

GTF2E1, also known as transcription initiation factor IIE subunit alpha (TFIIE-alpha), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GTF2E1 gene.

GTF2E1 plays a crucial role in transcription initiation by recruiting TFIIH to the initiation complex. It enhances the activity of TFIIH, specifically its RNA polymerase II C-terminal domain kinase and DNA-dependent ATPase functions. The combined action of TFIIH and TFIIE is essential for the RNA polymerase to escape the promoter region and begin transcribing.

GTF2E1 is also known as FE, TF2E1, TFIIE-A.
