GSTM5

Description

The GSTM5 (glutathione S-transferase mu 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

GSTM5 plays a crucial role in detoxifying the body by attaching a molecule called reduced glutathione to a wide variety of harmful substances, both from outside the body (exogenous) and produced within the body (endogenous). These harmful substances are typically hydrophobic and electrophilic, meaning they don't dissolve easily in water and readily bind to other molecules.

GSTM5 is also known as GSTM5-5, GTM5.
