GSTM2

Description

The GSTM2 (glutathione S-transferase mu 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The GSTM2 gene encodes an enzyme called glutathione S-transferase Mu 2, which belongs to the mu class of glutathione S-transferases. These enzymes play a crucial role in detoxifying harmful substances, including carcinogens, drugs, toxins, and byproducts of oxidative stress, by attaching glutathione to them. The GSTM2 gene is part of a cluster of genes on chromosome 1, and it is known to have variations that can affect an individual's susceptibility to toxins and carcinogens, as well as the effectiveness and side effects of certain drugs.

GSTM2 is also known as GST4, GSTM, GSTM2-2, GTHMUS.
