GRPEL2

Description

The GRPEL2 (GrpE like 2, mitochondrial) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

GRPEL2 is a crucial component of the PAM complex, which facilitates the ATP-dependent movement of proteins containing transit peptides from the inner mitochondrial membrane into the mitochondrial matrix. GRPEL2 plays a key role in regulating the interaction between mitochondrial HSP70 and substrate proteins, influencing the binding of these proteins in a nucleotide-dependent manner. It enhances the ATPase activity of mt-HSP70, potentially by modulating the transition between inactive oligomeric and active monomeric forms of mt-HSP70.

GRPEL2 is also known as Mt-GrpE#2.
