GRPEL1

Description

The GRPEL1 (GrpE like 1, mitochondrial) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

GRPEL1 is a crucial part of the PAM complex, which is responsible for moving proteins with transit peptides from the inner mitochondrial membrane into the mitochondrial matrix. This process requires energy from ATP. GRPEL1 appears to regulate how mitochondrial HSP70 binds to substrate proteins depending on the presence of nucleotides.

GRPEL1 is also known as GrpE, HMGE, mt-GrpE#1.
