GRIPAP1

Description

The GRIPAP1 (GRIP1 associated protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

GRIPAP1 (GRIP1-associated protein 1) is a protein encoded by the GRIPAP1 gene in humans. It functions as a neuron-specific guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for the Ras family of small G proteins, and it is associated with the GRIP/AMPA receptor complex in the brain. GRIPAP1 interacts with GRIP1.

GRIPAP1 plays a crucial role in regulating the recycling of endosomes back to the neuronal plasma membrane. It likely connects early and late recycling endosomal domains, promoting the separation of recycling endosomes from early endosomal membranes. This function helps in the localization of recycling endosomes to dendritic spines, contributing to the maintenance of dendritic spine morphology. GRIPAP1 is essential for the activity-induced recycling of AMPA receptors to dendrite membranes, which is vital for long-term potentiation and synaptic plasticity.

GRIPAP1 is also known as GRASP-1.
