GREB1

Description

The GREB1 (growth regulating estrogen receptor binding 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The GREB1 gene encodes a protein known as Growth Regulation by Estrogen in Breast Cancer 1. This protein is responsive to estrogen and is an early gene activated by the estrogen receptor. It is believed to play a crucial role in tissues and cancers that are affected by hormones. There are three different versions of the GREB1 protein, created through alternative splicing of the gene.

GREB1 may contribute to the growth of cells stimulated by estrogen. It is believed to regulate the growth of cancers that are dependent on hormones, particularly in breast and prostate cancers.
