GPX2

Description

The GPX2 (glutathione peroxidase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

GPX2 may refer to the human gene GPX2, which encodes the glutathione peroxidase 2 enzyme.

GPX2 catalyzes the reduction of hydroperoxides using glutathione, maintaining cellular redox balance. It can reduce various hydroperoxides, including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), cumene hydroperoxide, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, and fatty acid-derived hydroperoxides. However, it cannot reduce phosphatidycholine hydroperoxide.

GPX2 is also known as GI-GPx, GPRP, GPRP-2, GPx-2, GPx-GI, GSHPX-GI, GSHPx-2.
