Description
The GPSM1 (G protein signaling modulator 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
GPSM1, or G-protein-signaling modulator 1, is a protein encoded by the GPSM1 gene in humans. G proteins, involved in intracellular signaling, are activated by G protein-coupled receptors.
GPSM1 acts as a receptor-independent activator of heterotrimeric G-protein signaling. It keeps the G(i/o) alpha subunit in its GDP-bound state, effectively uncoupling G-protein signaling from G protein-coupled receptors. This protein plays a role in controlling spindle orientation and asymmetric cell fate in cerebral cortical progenitors. It may also be involved in macroautophagy in intestinal cells and potentially contribute to drug addiction.
