GPLD1

Description

The GPLD1 (glycosylphosphatidylinositol specific phospholipase D1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

GPLD1 is a human gene encoding an enzyme called phosphatidylinositol-glycan-specific phospholipase D. This enzyme plays a crucial role in releasing proteins from the plasma membrane by breaking down their GPI anchors, which are glycolipids found on many blood cells. GPLD1 has been shown to interact with Apolipoprotein A1 and APOA4. Interestingly, GPLD1 levels in mice increase after exercise and correlate with improved cognitive function. In humans, GPLD1 levels in blood are elevated in active elderly individuals.

GPLD1 hydrolyzes the inositol phosphate linkage in proteins anchored by phosphatidylinositol glycans (GPI-anchor), releasing these proteins from the plasma membrane.

GPLD1 is also known as GPIPLD, GPIPLDM, PIGPLD, PIGPLD1, PLD.
