GPHB5
Description
The GPHB5 (glycoprotein hormone subunit beta 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
GPHB5 is a gene that encodes a protein called glycoprotein hormone beta-5. This protein is a cystine knot-forming polypeptide and a subunit of the dimeric glycoprotein hormone family. It forms a dimer with GPHA2, another protein, to create a hormone that can activate the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR), leading to increased cAMP production. The crystal structure of a similar protein from Caenorhabditis elegans has been determined, providing insight into the evolution of glycoprotein hormones.
GPHB5 is also known as B5, GPB5, ZLUT1.
