GPHA2
Description
The GPHA2 (glycoprotein hormone subunit alpha 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
Glycoprotein hormone alpha-2 is a protein encoded by the GPHA2 gene in humans. It is a cystine knot-forming polypeptide that forms a subunit of the dimeric glycoprotein hormone family. GPHA2 is involved in the formation of a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone with GPHB5, which binds and activates the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR), leading to increased cAMP production and playing a crucial role in controlling thyroid cell metabolism.
GPHA2, when combined with GPHB5, forms a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone that can bind and activate the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR). This activation leads to increased cAMP production, playing a crucial role in regulating thyroid cell metabolism.
GPHA2 is also known as A2, GPA2, ZSIG51.
