GPC5

Description

The GPC5 (glypican 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

Glypican-5 is a protein encoded by the GPC5 gene in humans. It belongs to the family of cell surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans, which are characterized by a membrane-bound protein core adorned with multiple heparan sulfate chains. Glypican-5, like other members of the glypican-related integral membrane proteoglycan (GRIPS) family, is anchored to the cell membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol linkage. These proteins are believed to play a crucial role in regulating cell division and growth.

Glypican-5 is a cell surface proteoglycan that carries heparan sulfate.
