GOPC

Description

The GOPC (golgi associated PDZ and coiled-coil motif containing) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

GOPC, or Golgi-associated PDZ and coiled-coil motif-containing protein, is a protein encoded by the GOPC gene in humans. It is a PDZ domain-containing Golgi protein. PDZ domains are approximately 90 amino acids long and bind to the extreme C-terminus of proteins in a sequence-specific manner. GOPC has been shown to interact with GRID2, BECN1, RHOQ, ACCN3, Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), and CSPG5.

GOPC plays a crucial role in intracellular protein trafficking and degradation, potentially regulating CFTR chloride currents and acid-induced ASIC3 currents by influencing their cell surface expression. It may also regulate the intracellular trafficking of the ADR1B receptor. GOPC is implicated in autophagy, and in collaboration with MARCHF2, facilitates the ubiquitination and lysosomal degradation of CFTR. Overexpression of GOPC leads to CFTR intracellular retention and lysosomal degradation.

GOPC is also known as CAL, FIG, GOPC1, PIST, dJ94G16.2.
