Description
The gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor 2 (GNRH2) is a protein that plays a crucial role in regulating the reproductive system. It is primarily expressed in the pituitary gland and is responsible for stimulating the secretion of the gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which control the production of sex hormones and the menstrual cycle.

Dysregulation of GNRH2 can lead to a variety of reproductive disorders, including:
- Hypogonadism: Failure of the testes or ovaries to produce sufficient sex hormones.
- Precocious puberty: Early onset of puberty before the age of 8 in girls and 9 in boys.
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): A hormonal disorder in women characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, and excessive androgen production.
- Endometriosis: Growth of uterine tissue outside the uterus.
