GMEB1

Description

The GMEB1 (glucocorticoid modulatory element binding protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

GMEB1, encoded by the GMEB1 gene, belongs to the KDWK gene family. It forms a complex with GMEB2, crucial for parvovirus DNA replication. Studies on its rat homolog suggest a role in modulating transactivation by the glucocorticoid receptor bound to glucocorticoid response elements. Two alternative spliced transcript variants encode different isoforms. GMEB1 interacts with TRIM63.

GMEB1 acts as a trans-acting factor that binds to glucocorticoid modulatory elements (GME) within the TAT (tyrosine aminotransferase) promoter, enhancing sensitivity to low glucocorticoid levels. It also binds to the transferrin receptor promoter. Notably, GMEB1 is an essential auxiliary factor for the replication of parvoviruses.

GMEB1 is also known as P96PIF, PIF96.
