GLRX3

Description

The GLRX3 (glutaredoxin 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

Glutaredoxin-3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GLRX3 gene.

Glutaredoxin-3, in collaboration with BOLA2, functions as a cytosolic iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster assembly factor. This complex facilitates the insertion of [2Fe-2S] clusters into specific cytosolic proteins. Furthermore, Glutaredoxin-3 acts as a crucial negative regulator of cardiac hypertrophy and a positive inotropic regulator. It is also essential for hemoglobin maturation. Notably, Glutaredoxin-3 lacks the conserved motif required for thioredoxin activity, therefore, it does not possess any thioredoxin activity.

GLRX3 is also known as GLRX4, GRX3, GRX4, PICOT, TXNL2, TXNL3.
