GHRH
Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH)
Description:
Growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) is a peptide hormone that stimulates the release of growth hormone (GH) from the anterior pituitary gland. GHRH is produced by specialized neurons in the hypothalamus, a brain region that plays a crucial role in regulating hormone production and homeostasis.
Associated Diseases:
- Gigantism: Excessive production of GH, leading to abnormal growth in childhood and adolescence, resulting in extreme height.
- Acromegaly: Overproduction of GH in adulthood, causing thickening of bones and soft tissues, particularly affecting the hands, feet, and face.
- GH Deficiency: Inadequate production of GH, impairing growth and development in children and potentially causing a range of health problems in adults.
Did you Know ?
- The normal range of GHRH levels in adults is 20-50 pg/mL. In individuals with gigantism, GHRH levels can exceed 1000 pg/mL.
