Succinylcholine

Description

Succinylcholine, a synthetic muscle relaxant, is rapidly acting and short-acting. It‘s primarily used to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery. This drug acts by mimicking acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions, and then prolonging the effect at the neuromuscular junction. However, succinylcholine‘s use is associated with potential side effects and complications, demanding careful patient selection and monitoring.
