ZSCAN10

Description

The ZSCAN10 (zinc finger and SCAN domain containing 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

ZSCAN10 is a crucial transcription factor specifically found in embryonic stem (ES) cells. It plays a vital role in maintaining the pluripotency of ES cells, allowing them to differentiate into any cell type. ZSCAN10 can either activate or repress the expression of target genes depending on the specific cellular context. It binds to a specific DNA sequence, 5‘-[GA]CGCNNGCG[CT]-3‘, and directly regulates the expression of other important genes involved in ES cell pluripotency, such as POU5F1/OCT4, ZSCAN4, and ALYREF/THOC4.

ZSCAN10 is also known as ZFP206, ZNF206.
