ZNF703

Description

The ZNF703 (zinc finger protein 703) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

ZNF703 is a gene linked to the development of breast cancer, particularly luminal B subtype, where it acts as an oncogene. It belongs to the NET/N1z family, known for regulating transcription during development, especially in the hindbrain. ZNF703 normally regulates cell adhesion, movement, and proliferation. It indirectly affects gene expression by recruiting histone deacetylases to promoter regions. Discovered in 2011, ZNF703 is the first oncogene identified in six years. It is part of the 8p12 telomeric amplicon associated with luminal B breast cancer, acting as the driver of amplification at this locus. Patients with luminal B cancer caused by ZNF703 exhibit lower recovery and survival rates than other cancer types. ZNF703 has demonstrated resistance to the anti-cancer drug Tamoxifen.

ZNF703 is also known as NLZ1, ZEPPO1, ZNF503L, ZPO1.
