ZNF536

Description

The ZNF536 (zinc finger protein 536) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

ZNF536 acts as a transcriptional repressor, inhibiting neuron differentiation by suppressing gene transcription induced by retinoic acid. This repression is achieved by ZNF536 binding to retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), specifically the tandem 5‘-AGGTCA-3‘ sites known as DR1-DR5. By binding to these sites, ZNF536 prevents the retinoid acid receptor alpha (RARA) from interacting with RAREs, thereby blocking retinoic acid signaling. Moreover, ZNF536 recognizes and binds to two copies of the core DNA sequence 5‘-CCCCCA-3‘.

ZNF536 is also known as -.
