ZNF385A

Description

The ZNF385A (zinc finger protein 385A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

ZNF385A, also known as Hematopoietic zinc finger protein and Retinal zinc finger protein, is an RNA-binding protein that influences the localization and translation of specific mRNA molecules. It plays a role in adipogenesis by binding to the 3‘-UTR of CEBPA mRNA and regulating its translation. ZNF385A targets ITPR1 mRNA to dendrites in Purkinje cells, potentially regulating its activity-dependent translation. In collaboration with ELAVL1, it binds the 3‘-UTR of p53/TP53 mRNAs to control their nuclear export triggered by CDKN2A. This interaction may regulate p53/TP53 expression and contribute to the anti-proliferative activity of CDKN2A. Additionally, ZNF385A can bind to CCNB1 mRNA. Alternatively, it might regulate p53/TP53 activity through direct protein-protein interactions. ZNF385A interacts with p53/TP53, promoting cell cycle arrest over apoptosis by preferentially enhancing p53/TP53 DNA binding and transactivation on cell cycle arrest target genes compared to proapoptotic target genes. It may also regulate CDKN1A ubiquitination and stability, promoting DNA damage-induced cell cycle arrest. Furthermore, ZNF385A contributes to megakaryocyte differentiation.

ZNF385A is also known as HZF, RZF, ZFP385, ZNF385.
