ZNF24

Description

The ZNF24 (zinc finger protein 24) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

Zinc finger protein 24 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ZNF24 gene. It is involved in the myelination of differentiated oligodendrocytes and plays a role in maintaining progenitor cells in the developing central nervous system.

ZNF24 is a transcription factor essential for the myelination process in differentiated oligodendrocytes. It plays a crucial role in the transition of oligodendrocytes from the premyelinating to the myelinating stage. During central nervous system development, ZNF24 contributes to maintaining the progenitor stage by promoting cell cycle progression. ZNF24 specifically binds to the 5‘-TCAT-3‘ DNA sequence and exhibits transcription repressor activity in vitro.

ZNF24 is also known as KOX17, RSG-A, ZNF191, ZSCAN3, Zfp191.
