ZNF184
Description
The ZNF184 (zinc finger protein 184) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.
ZNF184, also known as Zinc finger protein 184, is a protein encoded by the ZNF184 gene on human chromosome 6. It was discovered in 1996. The protein contains a KRAB_A (Krüppel associated box) domain near its N-terminus, which is linked to repression of transcription, and a Zn-finger (Zinc finger) domain at its C-terminus, responsible for DNA binding. ZNF184 has 19 zinc finger motifs at the end of its longest exon. These motifs are characterized by two columns of cysteine (C) residues and two columns of histidine (H) residues, hence the name C2H2 zinc finger. Highly conserved hydrophobic residues (mostly F and L) and a conserved lysine (K) residue contribute to the structure and function of these motifs.
ZNF184 is also known as kr-ZNF3.
