ZNF106

Description

The ZNF106 (zinc finger protein 106) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

ZNF106 is an RNA-binding protein that specifically binds to the 5‘-GGGGCC-3‘ sequence repeats in RNA. It is crucial for maintaining the health of peripheral motor neurons and skeletal muscle. ZNF106 plays a role in regulating the expression and alternative splicing of several genes in the spinal cord and skeletal muscle, including the neurite outgrowth inhibitor RTN4. It also contributes to normal mitochondrial respiratory function in motor neurons through an unknown mechanism.

ZNF106 is also known as SH3BP3, ZFP106, ZNF474.
