ZHX1

Description

The ZHX1 (zinc fingers and homeoboxes 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

ZHX1, also known as Zinc fingers and homeoboxes protein 1, is a protein encoded by the ZHX1 gene in humans. The ZHX1 protein is a nuclear homodimeric transcriptional repressor that interacts with the A subunit of nuclear factor-Y (NF-YA). It contains two C2H2-type zinc fingers and five homeobox DNA-binding domains. ZHX1 is the first member of the zinc fingers and homeoboxes gene family. Besides forming homodimers, it can also heterodimerize with ZHX2 and ZHX3. Alternative splicing of the ZHX1 gene results in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein.

ZHX1 acts as a transcriptional repressor, enhancing the repressive transcriptional activity of DNMT3B when it is bound to DNA. It potentially acts as a bridge between DNMT3B and other co-repressor proteins.

ZHX1 is also known as -.
