ZFAND5

Description

The ZFAND5 (zinc finger AN1-type containing 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

ZFAND5 (Zinc finger AN1-type containing 5) is a protein encoded by the ZFAND5 gene in humans.

ZFAND5 plays a critical role in protein degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome system, potentially by anchoring ubiquitinated proteins to the proteasome. It is involved in muscle atrophy by regulating ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation. ZFAND5 regulates NF-kappa-B activation and apoptosis. It inhibits NF-kappa-B activation triggered by overexpression of RIPK1 and TRAF6, but not RELA. It also inhibits TNF, IL-1, and TLR4-induced NF-kappa-B activation in a dose-dependent manner. Overexpression of ZFAND5 sensitizes cells to TNF-induced apoptosis. Additionally, it acts as a potent inhibitor of osteoclast differentiation.

ZFAND5 is also known as ZA20D2, ZFAND5A, ZNF216.
