ZDHHC12

Description

The ZDHHC12 (zinc finger DHHC-type palmitoyltransferase 12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

ZDHHC12 is a palmitoyltransferase that catalyzes the addition of palmitate onto various protein substrates. It has palmitoyltransferase activity toward gephyrin/GPHN, regulating its clustering at synapses and its function in gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor clustering. This indirectly regulates GABAergic synaptic transmission. ZDHHC12 acts as an inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome by mediating palmitoylation of NLRP3, thereby promoting NLRP3 degradation by the chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) process.

ZDHHC12 is also known as DHHC-12, ZNF400.
