ZBTB4

Description

The ZBTB4 (zinc finger and BTB domain containing 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

ZBTB4 is a transcriptional repressor that binds to DNA with a dual specificity. It preferentially binds to methylated CpG dinucleotides, particularly the consensus sequence 5'-CGCG-3', but can also bind to the non-methylated consensus sequence 5'-CTGCNA-3', also known as the KBS. ZBTB4 can bind to a single methylated CpG pair and hemimethylated DNA, though with a lower affinity compared to fully methylated DNA. This protein plays a role in postnatal myogenesis and may regulate satellite cell self-renewal.

ZBTB4 is also known as KAISO-L1, ZNF903.
