ZBED5

Description

The ZBED5 (zinc finger BED-type containing 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The ZBED5 gene in humans codes for a protein that is unusual because its coding sequence is mostly derived from a Charlie-like DNA transposon. However, this gene does not seem to be an active DNA transposon, as it lacks the characteristic flanking terminal inverted repeats. This protein is found in a variety of mammals, particularly those in the Laurasiatheria branch. Multiple variations of the protein are produced through alternative splicing of the gene.

ZBED5 is also known as Buster1.
