ZBED2 is a transcriptional regulator that possesses intrinsic repressor activity and competes with the transcriptional activator IRF1 to bind to the 5'-[CA]GAA[AC]C[CT]-3' consensus sequence in gene promoters. This competition may contribute to keratinocyte differentiation.
