ZAR1L

Description

The ZAR1L (zygote arrest 1 like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

ZAR1L is an mRNA-binding protein crucial for the storage, translation, and degradation of maternal mRNAs during oocyte maturation. It likely promotes the formation of phase-separated compartments that store maternal mRNAs in oocytes by undergoing liquid-liquid phase separation upon binding to these mRNAs. It binds to the 3'-UTR of maternal mRNAs, preventing their translation.

ZAR1L is also known as Z3CXXC7, ZAR2.
