YBX2
Description
The YBX2 (Y-box binding protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
YBX2 is a protein encoded by the YBX2 gene in humans.
YBX2 is a major component of messenger ribonucleoprotein particles (mRNPs) and plays a crucial role in regulating the stability and translation of germ cell mRNAs. It binds to the Y-box consensus promoter element and interacts with full-length mRNA with high affinity, regardless of sequence. YBX2 also binds to short RNA sequences containing the consensus site 5'-UCCAUCA-3', albeit with low affinity and limited sequence specificity. Its interaction with maternal mRNAs is essential for their cytoplasmic retention. YBX2 may mark specific mRNAs (transcribed from Y-box promoters) in the nucleus for cytoplasmic storage, connecting transcription with mRNA storage and translational delay.
