YAF2

Description

The YAF2 (YY1 associated factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

YAF2 is a protein encoded by the YAF2 gene. It interacts with YY1, a protein that regulates muscle gene expression. Unlike YY1, YAF2 is increased during muscle development. YAF2 promotes the breakdown of YY1 by an enzyme called m-calpain, effectively counteracting YY1's repressive activity.

YAF2 binds to MYC and inhibits its transcriptional activation. Conversely, it binds to MYCN and enhances its transcriptional activation. YAF2 promotes the breakdown of YY1 by calpain 2, an enzyme that breaks down proteins. It's part of a complex called E2F6.com-1 which modifies chromatin by adding a methyl group to histone H3, a protein that helps package DNA.

YAF2 is also known as -.
