XPO4

Description

The XPO4 (exportin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

Exportin-4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the XPO4 gene.

Exportin-4 (XPO4) is a nuclear transport receptor that mediates the export of proteins from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. It binds to its cargo proteins and the GTPase Ran in its active GTP-bound form, forming a trimeric complex that docks to the nuclear pore complex (NPC). Upon transport to the cytoplasm, the complex disassembles, releasing the cargo protein. XPO4 then returns to the nucleus to mediate another round of transport. XPO4 plays a role in the export of various proteins, including EIF5A, SMAD3, and isoform M2 of PKM (PKM2). It also mediates the nuclear import of SOX transcription factors SRY and SOX2.

XPO4 is also known as exp4.
