XPNPEP1

Description

The XPNPEP1 (X-prolyl aminopeptidase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

XPNPEP1 (Xaa-Pro aminopeptidase 1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of any unsubstituted N-terminal amino acid adjacent to a penultimate proline residue. This specificity for proline suggests XPNPEP1 is important for maturing and degrading peptide hormones, neuropeptides, and tachykinins, as well as for digesting resistant dietary protein fragments, complementing pancreatic peptidases.

XPNPEP1 is also known as APP1, SAMP, XPNPEP, XPNPEPL, XPNPEPL1.
