WSCD1

Description

The WSCD1 (WSC domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

WSCD1, also known as Sialate:O-sulfotransferase 1, is an enzyme that catalyzes the addition of a sulfate group to the 8-position of sialic acid (Sia) within Sia-glycans. This process, called 8-O-sulfation, uses 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) as a sulfate donor, resulting in the formation of 8-O-sulfated Sia (Sia8S)-glycans. WSCD1 exhibits specificity towards glycolipids, particularly GM1 gangliosides.

WSCD1 is also known as -.
