WNT9B

Description

The WNT9B (Wnt family member 9B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

Wnt-9b, formerly known as Wnt15, is a protein encoded by the WNT9B gene. It is a glycoprotein that functions in signaling and developmental processes. Like other Wnt genes, Wnt-9B participates in the canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. It is located on chromosome 17 in region 17q21 and plays a crucial role in kidney development. Improper expression can cause cyst development on kidney tubules and in mice, mutant Wnt9 genes result in kidney failure shortly after birth. Wnt-9b is expressed in the epithelial cells of the Wolfian duct in early male and female embryos. In embryos, Wnt11 is expressed at the branching points of the kidney tubules while Wnt-9b is expressed at higher concentrations in the stalk of the tubules.

WNT9B is also known as WNT14B, WNT15.
