WNT6

Description

The WNT6 (Wnt family member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

WNT6, also known as Wingless-type MMTV integration site family, member 6, is a human gene belonging to the WNT gene family. These genes encode secreted signaling proteins implicated in cancer development and various developmental processes, including cell fate regulation and embryonic patterning. WNT6 is overexpressed in cervical cancer cells and strongly coexpressed with WNT10A in colorectal cancer cells, suggesting its potential role in carcinogenesis. The gene's overexpression might be crucial for cancer development. WNT6 and WNT10A are located on chromosome 2q35. The WNT6 protein shares 97% amino acid sequence similarity with its mouse counterpart, Wnt6. WNT6 is involved in the development of embryonic structures, including the heart, ventral body wall, and somite-derived structures. It inhibits cardiogenic mesoderm induction through the canonical Wnt signaling pathway.
