WFDC5

Description

The WFDC5 (WAP four-disulfide core domain 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

The WFDC5 gene encodes a protein belonging to the WAP-type four-disulfide core (WFDC) domain family. It contains two WFDC domains, each characterized by eight cysteines forming four disulfide bonds. These domains function as protease inhibitors. Most WFDC genes are found on chromosome 20q12-q13 in two clusters: centromeric and telomeric. WFDC5 belongs to the centromeric cluster.

Putative acid-stable proteinase inhibitor.

WFDC5 is also known as PRG5, WAP1, dJ211D12.5.
