WFDC2

Description

The WFDC2 (WAP four-disulfide core domain 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

WFDC2, also known as Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4), is a protein encoded by the WFDC2 gene. It is a member of the WFDC domain family, characterized by a motif with eight cysteines forming four disulfide bonds. This protein functions as a protease inhibitor. WFDC2 is expressed in pulmonary epithelial cells and has been found in some ovarian cancers. It is a small secretory protein potentially involved in sperm maturation. HE4 is a tumor marker for ovarian cancer, with 80% sensitivity at a cut-off of 150 pmol/L.

WFDC2 is a broad-spectrum protease inhibitor.

WFDC2 is also known as EDDM4, HE4, WAP5, dJ461P17.6.
