VSIG4
Description
The VSIG4 (V-set and immunoglobulin domain containing 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.
VSIG4 is a protein encoded by the VSIG4 gene in humans. It belongs to the B7 family of immune regulatory proteins, and its structure includes a v-set and immunoglobulin domain. VSIG4 may act as a negative regulator of T-cell responses and serves as a receptor for the complement component 3 fragments C3b and iC3b. Multiple transcript variants are produced due to alternative splicing.
VSIG4 acts as a phagocytic receptor, strongly inhibiting T-cell proliferation and IL2 production. It also potently inhibits the alternative complement pathway convertases. (ECO:0000269|PubMed:17016562, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17051150)
