VAMP5

Description

The VAMP5 (vesicle associated membrane protein 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

VAMP-5 is a synaptobrevin protein encoded by the VAMP5 gene in humans. It's a key component of a protein complex responsible for vesicle docking and fusion with cell membranes, working alongside syntaxins and the 25-kD synaptosomal-associated protein. VAMP5 belongs to the vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP)/synaptobrevin family and the SNARE superfamily. Its involvement in myogenesis-related vesicle trafficking events suggests a role in muscle development.
